[Taipei, Taiwan] - 金峰魯肉飯 Jinfeng Braised Meat Rice

Hands down my favorite place to get pork belly over rice in Taipei - 金峰. When my cousin first introduced it to me she said the reviews all said it "tastes like heaven." This was at least seven or eight years ago. Since then I have gone every trip (close to annual) and have either eaten it there or taken it to go. When it's very busy, they'll combine stray diners with each other at the same table. Otherwise, you and your party get your own small steel table. Eating there is best since the food is served hot. If you take it to go, you run the chance of it cooling enough that it isn't as good. Sometimes it's worth it though. For me, it depends on my mood. Sometimes on a hot night it's actually cooler outside in the big open area at CKS Memorial.

The pork belly here is my favorite because they have such a good blend of lean and fat meat. The flavor is perfect also. Not too sweet like some of the other shops. It's one of those foods where if you haven't had it in Taiwan, you haven't really had it. Believe me. I have tried finding the equivalent in LA, SF, San Jose, Milpitas, and the Seattle area. They tend to make it without the sweetness (it still needs that sweet taste, even if it's not a lot), and with more lean meat so there's less flavor. As much as I like Class 302, they use lean meat and little to no gravy.

If you make it out to Taiwan, as more and more people seem to be doing, stop by 金峰 and try it out!

Their deliciously mouth watering pork belly rice.

Two orders of pork belly rice, one herbal chicken soup, and one bittermelon and pork ribs soup.

Always busy. Always. Make sure to get in the right line. One is for take out, one is for eat in.

Don't want to deal with the lines? Want a beer with your food? Take it to go and sit at CKS! Plenty of space and great for people watching.

Lovely lean pork and fatty bits. I don't understand why the places in the States only use lean meat crumbles.
