[San Francisco, CA] - Salt & Straw
I love ice cream. One of my favorite ice cream shops, Salt & Straw, recently made the move down to San Francisco! That means instead of driving 9 hours to Portland to get my fix (or an hour and a half flight), I can drive an hour and a half and get some "locally" in Northern California.
Some people were complaining about the lines, but every time I've gone to any location in Portland, there's been a line. Maybe not this long, but depending on the time of day, it changes. Either way, the line at the San Francisco location moves relatively quickly and the line pictured below only took about 15-20 minutes. If you just want to grab a few pints, you can skip the line and get them from the fridge and just pay for them. Seating is limited, so don't expect to get a seat (so if you do, count yourself lucky!). There's also a bench outside, but that is usually taken too.
The first time I went to Salt & Straw, I had the bourbon pineapple upside down cake. It was pretty amazing. It tasted like I was actually eating a pineapple upside down cake. Their seasonal flavors are definitely something to watch for. They adjust according to whatever is freshest or in season (hence the term "seasonal"). I went mid July and they still had some leftover Skittles ice cream they created in celebration of LGBTQ month, and it is hands down my favorite ice cream now. They are currently out, but swing by and try their other flavors! They are all rich and creamy. If that's not your jam, I am a fan of their wildberry sorbet. Refreshing and cool, you can also see the bits of skin in it.
Sampler - wildberry sorbet, fresh cheese and strawberry, goat cheese marionberry habanero, and meyer lemon buttermilk with blueberries.

The line.

More info on the Skittles Rainbow Sherbet. So much effort, but it the delicious taste makes it worth it!
If you are getting a pint, grab it from the case and head over to the register to pay. But in all honesty, do you really want just a pint and not to enjoy some freshly scooped ice cream?
The menu changes regularly so come by often!
Swag.
